BARBARA RUBENSTEIN | abstract artist

Barbara paints in the genre referred to as “abstract expressionism”, primarily using acrylics and ink. She is noted for rich layers of color and texture. Her work seamlessly melds geometric elements with vibrancy, spontaneity, and organic form. Much of Barbara’s inspiration comes from nature, particularly the rich colours and awe-inspiring landforms, sky and water.

My art is shaped by my early adventures as a geologist, and thus my photographs chronicle what I find visually and intellectually intriguing in the natural world. Understanding the physical processes that create patterns in nature allows me to capture unusual impressions and abstractions of the visual landscape. The common thread illustrated in most of my work is the effect created by the distortion of light, color, and shape created either by ripples in a spring, the convoluted fracturing of a cliff face, stressed glass panes in Covid-abandoned buildings of downtown Houston, or the impurities in a 400-year-old pane of glass”.
